Framing the Future: A PR First Project Rooted in Steel and Stories
This project was part of my 180 days training in the Public Relations (PR) Department at SAIL-ISP Burnpur — one of India’s biggest steel companies. During the training, I learned how a PR department works and helped create real content used by the company. My main goal was to understand how stories from inside the company are shared with the public, and how this helps build trust and promote the company’s good work.
The highlight of my training was writing a case study about a young nursing student who achieved top marks in the state exam. This story showed how the company supports education and the local community. It was turned into a press release, shared in newspapers, and even recorded on video.
Key Work Done During the Project
Student Success Story
Wrote a case study about Payel Mishra, a nursing student who ranked first in the state despite facing personal hardships. This story showed SAIL-ISP’s support for education and women’s empowerment.Interview and Content Writing

Why This Project is Important
Real-Life Experience: I got hands-on experience working in a government company’s PR department.
Community Impact: The project helped tell a real story of success and courage, showing how SAIL-ISP helps its people.
Writing for a Big Audience: My work was shared in newspapers and official platforms, giving me a chance to write for real readers.
Learning Professional PR Work: I learned how to write news stories, plan content, and support the company’s image.

Second Project Overview
During my vocational training with the Public Relations Department at SAIL‑IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur, I led a two-fold initiative:
Creating a comprehensive guide map of the new 2.5 MTPA IISCO steel plant.
Documenting the history and sports personalities of the ISP Sports House, including its facilities and athlete achievements.
1. Guide Map Design
Project scope and process
I gathered critical layout data—main entry points (Tunnel and Sanmara gates), key facilities (blast furnace, coke oven, ED works, canteen, medical center, CISF post), and measured distances through Google Earth and plant schematics. Collaborating closely with the Design Department under Mr. Deepak Laxman, I translated this information into a simplified 2D guide map featuring directional arrows, distance markers, and intuitive "You are here" points.
Features included
Clear identification of main gates and access routes.
Standardized icons for safety posts, medical points, canteens, water supply, and power connections.
Accurate distance markers (e.g., Tunnel Gate to Blast Furnace – 1.4 km).
An emergency whistle protocol:
3 short whistles = fire/gas alert
4 whistles = water failure
6 whistles = total power failure
One long whistle = all-clear
Backup systems like the works buzzer and PA announcements were also incorporated.
Significance
This guide map enhances orientation for new employees, contractors, and visitors, supporting PR and security teams with clear visual navigation and emergency procedures across the plant’s expansive campus.
2. Sports House Research
Project scope and research
I conducted an in-depth interview with Mr. Biswajit Das from the Sports Department to explore the selection framework, facilities, and athlete development. I reviewed archived reports and performance records to trace the Sports House’s impact over time.
Key findings
Sports activities have been ongoing since the 1970s, spanning cricket, football, athletics, kabaddi, table tennis, chess, boxing, volleyball, handball, badminton, and hockey.
The football and table tennis academy was officially launched in 2009.
National-level athletes include:
Cricketers: Abhijit Bhagat (Bengal U‑19), Siddharth Singh (Bengal U‑16)
Footballers: Dr. Kanjilal, Debo Prasad Sarkar, Swapan Ganguly
Weightlifters: Bijoy Bahadur Singh, Rajaram, Pradip Maji
Umpire: H.S. Soki (International Hockey)
The athlete selection process includes regional trials, medical assessments (cardio, orthopedic), fitness training, and gym conditioning.
Significance
This documentation highlights SAIL‑IISCO’s investment in community welfare and talent development while offering the Sports House a structured record of its achievements and athlete profiles.
Why This Project Matters
It addresses two key organizational priorities—safe operational navigation and employee well-being through sports.
I delivered practical tools: a mapped guide for safety and orientation, and a narrative report capturing sporting milestones.
I strengthened my skills in research, data visualization, stakeholder engagement, and presentation design—essential competencies in public relations within heavy-industry contexts.
This project has not only greatly supported SAIL‑IISCO's internal systems but also helped me develop strong skills in communication, spatial planning, and stakeholder collaboration.
